Endangered resident Pacific Northwest killer whales are missing the natural abundance of a key food source: chinook salmon. The salmon populations suffer due to the four lower Snake River dams that make salmon passage too difficult – adult salmon struggle to make it to their spawning grounds, and juveniles struggle to get to the ocean (where they would grow then serve as a food source for the whales or return to the river system to spawn and create more for the whales).
A petition is not on change.org to encourage the removal of these dams. To sign the petition, please click here.
