There’s no question that whales are suffering globally, and one fixable concern deals with overfishing on the West Coast of the U.S. I remember going whale watching in Monterey Bay a few years ago and the captain naming krill population depletion (for vitamins) as an immediate and substantial threat to the health of whales in the Pacific Ocean.
In addition, overfishing of anchovies, sardines, and mackerel are impacting numerous species of fish and are certainly impacting whales. Please petition the National Marine Fisheries Service and urge them to tighten regulations that will keep populations of anchovies at sustainable levels for the ecosystem and whales in particular.
